International midfielder Ryan Fenech was born on April 20, 1986. Fenech is a product of the Hamrun Spartans Nursery. Ryan began his football career with Hamrun Spartans, and made his debut during the 2002–03 season. During that season Ryan notched up just six appearances for the Spartans and scored a goal. In Season 2003-04, Fenech made ten appearances, but failed to score.

In season season 2005–06, Hamrun Spartans finished 10th in the Premier League, Ryan made 20 appearances and scored two goals. During the 2007-08 season Ryan was called to join the National team, during that season he made 24 appearances with the Spartans and scored two goals.

In season 2008-09, Hamrun Spartans finished in the 10th position of the Premier League and were relegated to the First Division. During that season Ryan Fenech made 22 appearances and scored one goal.

During the summer 2009 transfer market, Ryan joined Sliema Wanderers on loan till the end of the season. He made his debut with the Wanderers on August 30 in a match against Qormi. Ryan made 24 appearances with the Wanderers scoring 2 goals. At the beginning of season 2010-2011, Ryan returned with his home team Hamrun Spartans.

Ryan Fenech left Hamrun Spartans in January 2010, he signed a five year deal with Valletta, his transfer also involved Dyson Falzon who joined the Spartans on loan till the end of the season.

In January 2012, Fenech joined Sliema Wanderers on loan till the end of the season, he returned back with Valletta FC in May 2012.

In season 2013/14 Ryan was voted '2014 Player of the Year'. Fenech's stylish, imperious midfield play and leadership helped Valletta win the title after trailing Birkirkara FC for much of the season and then win the FA Trophy.
