Valletta FC face Newtown A.F.C in the first leg of the UEFA Europa league Published on: 22-06-2015


Valletta FC were drawn against Newtown A.F.C. of Wales in the first qualifying round of the Europa League. Valletta FC will play the first leg away on the 2nd July while the second leg will be played on the 9th July.

Newtown A.F.C. was founded in 1875 as Newtown White Stars, and were one of the founder members of the Football Association of Wales. Newtown White Stars, which appeared in the first ever Welsh Cup match in 1877, is believed to have merged with Newtown Excelsior to form the current Newtown AFC in time to be Welsh Cup finalists in 1885 and 1888.

Since 1992, Newtown A.F.C. has finished runners-up in the league in both 1995–96 & 1997–98, and subsequently played UEFA cup ties against Skonto Riga of Latvia and WisÅ‚a Kraków of Poland. The club moved into the Northern Premier League in the late 1980s.
