Valletta F.C. launch volume 1 of the History of Football in Valletta Published on: 11-07-2014

A book about the history of Football in Valletta titled CITy! was today launched by Valletta Football club, during a press conference held at the Vivaldi Golden Tulip in St Julians.
The first volume of the history of football in Valletta has about 600 pages. It covers the period from 1886 till 1963.
Vice President Paul Spiteri started his speech by saying that it was one of his dreams throughout the years with Valletta Football Club to publish the history of football in Valletta. Paul Spiteri stated that he wished Benny Pace should have written this book, however Benny passed away and he approached Carmel Baldacchino to start working on the history of football in Valletta.
Paul Spiteri ended his speech by saying that this book is a must for all local football enthusiasts; he also thanked vice president Alexander Fenech for his sponsorship towards the publication of the book.
Maltese football historian, Carmel Baldacchino started by thanking those who attended the press conference. He said that when he was approached by Paul Spiteri, he sincerely felt that the book should have been written by Benny Pace. Baldacchino mentioned also that the fact that he does not support Valletta F.C. is an advantage for him in order to be more professional in his work.
Carmel mentioned also that he enjoyed writing the history of football in Valletta and stressed out that the book does not contain the history of a particular club but the history of football in Malta, going back to the first football team The Malta Athletic club who are the forerunners of the Malta Football Association.
The football historian ended by saying that he already started on volume 2 which covers the period from 1963 till 2013-14, the second volume contains more intensive work.
Club President Victor Sciriha said that he is honoured to be president of Valletta Football Club for many reasons; one of them is that Valletta is always the first to kick-off with new ideas.
