The first Derby of the season between Valletta and Floriana will kick-off tonight at 20:30hrs. Following a 2-3 result against Hibernians last week, Valletta will be aiming for a win against the Greens.
During last Sunday’s match, Valletta scored twice in the first 30 minutes but the dismissal of Denni Rocha Dos Santos ruined the game for the Citizens who ended up the game empty-handed. This was the second match in which Valletta ended the game with ten men, during their first match against Mosta midfielder Edmond Agius also received a red card by the referee.
Valletta’s mentor Mark Miller will have to do without Edmond Agius and Denni dos Santos both players are suspended, defenders Steve Borg and Jonathan Caruana are unavailable, both players are still recovering from a injury. Newly signed foreigners Romulo Antoneli and Augustine Obaje are yet to make their debut during the BOV Premier League.
Floriana are passing through a negative period, they shared the spoils in a 1-1 result during their first match against Naxxar Lions. Last week they lost 1-2 to Tarxien Rainbows. The Greens were deducted another point this week by the Malta Football Association Board of Control and discipline following pending payments to Birkirkara for the transfer of Thomas Paris three years ago.They are currently at the bottom of the table with minus six points. Floriana should have all players available for the Derby.
