Preview: 25th Match vs Sliema W. Published on: 24-03-2012

Champions Valletta face a difficult encounter today against Sliema Wanderers, kick-off 16:00 hrs.

The Citizens failed to grab the three points last Saturday as they were held in a draw against Birkirkara. Denni Rocha Dos Santos opened the score for Valletta on the 71st minute but six minutes from the end Valletta received a shock as they conceded a penalty after Steve Borg was adjudged to have pushed Shodiya in the box. Moises Avila-Perez, who had just replaced Jorge, powered his shot into the right-hand corner to bring Birkirkara level.

The draw prevented Valletta from reclaiming the top spot as the Citizens are now level with Hibs after the latter had beat Floriana 2-0.

There will be several changes in the formation from the Citizens’ last encounter against Birkirkara.  Coach Jesmond Zerafa will have to do without midfielders Edmond Agius and Roderick Briffa both players are suspended after receiving a one-match ban this week. Alfred Effiong is also missing, the Nigerian striker received a three-match ban following his dismissal during the final minutes of the match against Birkirkara. Team manager Gerard Ellul is also suspended for two matches.

Sliema Wanderers mentor coach Danilo Doncic also cannot field his best formation; Mark Scerri and Anicet Eyenga are both suspended. Defenders Beppe Muscat, Josef Mifsud and Alex Muscat are recovering from injuries.
During the last match between the two teams played last January, the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless result, Michael Mifsud’s effort from the spot on the 70th minute was neutralised by Henry Bonello.
