The BOV Premier League resumes this weekend following a short break due to the U*Bet FA Trophy matches. Champions Valletta aim at returning to winning ways as they meet Qormi this afternoon, at the National Stadium kick-off 16:00hrs.
Valletta cannot afford to lose more points. During the last five matches they lost eleven points after being held in draws against Rabat Ajax, Balzan Youths, Sliema Wanderers and Tarxien Rainbows. During their last outing they obtained their first dafeat losing 0-1 against Mosta.
Qormi under the guidance of Jesmond Zerafa are coming from three positive results, they won their last three commitments against Tarxien Rainbows (2-1), Rabat Ajax (3-0) and Hibernians (1-0).
Matthew Gauci returns for Qormi after serving a one-match suspension.
Mark Miller the city’s mentor will have to do without Steve Borg, the City’s towering defender is recovering from a knee operation. Defender Jonathan Caruana is also doubtful; the international defender is also recovering from an injury.
Newly signed Nigerian striker Joseph Jojo Agonuppe is expected to make his debut with the Citizens today. Agonuppe joined Valletta on trial last week and his overall contribution convinced Coach Mark Miller to offer him a contract. The 20 year old striker has also represented Nigeria at youth level and also had a spell in Latvia.
During the last meeting between the two teams held last September, Valletta won the three points (3-0), goals by Ryan Fenech and captain Roderick Briffa.
