William Barbosa was voted best player for season by the fans’ voting. This was announced during the Annual General Meeting by club general secretary Mr. Joe Attard.

For the very first time Valletta fans had the opportunity to vote for the best player on www.vallettafc.net

During his first season with Valletta, William Barbosa received 43% of the votes while Denni Dos Santos and Gilbert Agius received 15% and 13% respectively from a total of 336 votes.  Ms Chailene Camenzuli  presented the award to Barbosa, as she was the chosen one from voters to get this opportunity.

The Player of the Year award was presented to William Barbosa before the Euro Cup match against Floriana yesterday at the Centenary Stadium. The 33-year-old had spent most of his career playing in Italy, he also had a two-year stint with Verona.

William Barbosa mostly played as an advanced midfielder or even as a second striker during the early months of last season later on, he then switched to central midfield by coach Zerafa where he shared his duties with Edmond Agius.

His versatility was crucial in the decisive match against Hibs, during the second half of the match the Brazilian dropped further back to fill in as a centre-half after Ian Azzopardi was substituted due to injury.

Despite playing several games in central midfield, William Barbosa succeeded in scoring 12 goals in the league.


Barbosa was also awarded with the Valletta FC Official forum best player for season 2011-2012. During the last season all Valletta FC forum members were asked to vote for the best player after each BOV Premier match. At the end of the season William Barbosa came first, Denni Dos Santos second while Edmond Agius third.
