U*Bet FA Trophy Final
Valletta and Qormi cross swords tomorrow in the final of the U*Bet FA Trophy. Qormi will be making their first appearance in a major final tomorrow at 17:00hrs at the National Stadium. For Valletta this will be the 23rd final in the FA Trophy, however the Citizens won this honour 11 times.
Valletta reached the final of this competition after edging Hamrun Spartans 6-5 on penalties. Andrew Hogg was the Citizens hero after saving Gaetan's Spiteri kick. Qormi finished third in the BOV Premier League standings, equal points with Sliema Wanderers. On Tuesday Qormi eliminated Tarxien Rainbows from this competition 2-0. If Valletta win the U*Bet FA Trophy a decider between Qormi and Sliema Wanderers will be played in order to determine which team will book a place in the Europa League competition.
Tomorrow's match will be the final for both team manager Nicky Saliba and also coach Ton Caanen. Earlier this week both officials stated that they will step down from their posts. Nicky Saliba served as a team manager for the past three years while Ton Caanen was appointed as a coach at the end of last season.
Captain Gilbert Agius and midfielder Edmond Agius will be available for tomorrow's match, both players return from serving a one-match suspension. Midfielder Jamie Pace and Steve Bezzina are both missing; Pace is still recovering from an injury while Steve Bezzina received a red card during the second half of the semi final played last Monday.
