Preview: Mare Blu Cup Valletta vs Hamrun S.
Valletta and Hamrun Spartans meet tomorrow in the final of the first edition of the Mare Blu Cup at the Victor Tedesco Stadium (Kick-off 7.30pm).
Valletta and Hamrun S. were chosen as the two contestants of this pre-season match, due to the fact that the sponsors, Mare Blu Tuna Farm Limited are keen fans of these two teams. Company director Giovanni Cappitta is the Exexcutive Vice-President of Valletta FC while his brother Massimo grew up in Hamrun and supports Hamrun Spartans.
“Both set of fans are awaiting this final due to the rivalry that exists between the two clubs. Hamrun Spartans has strengthened their squad with a number of experienced players including Massimo Grima, veteran David Camilleri,( both Loaned from Valletta FC) Ryan Fenech(came back from Sliema Wds ) and goalkeeper Omar Borg. These players should give a boost to the Hamrun Spartans and enable them to continue progressing throughout the Bov Premier League” Jesmond Zammit, the Valletta team manager told Valletta FC.net.
“The main principles of this match are to make this event an annual Event before the start of the Premier League and also to strengthen the good relationship that exists between the two committees. Both set of supporters are awaiting this Final and may it be an enjoyable evening for all those attending the match. Jesmond Zammit thanked Giovanni and Massimo Cappitta for their enthusiasm in organizing this match.
“Obviously I wish the best team to win and hope that we will win this beautiful trophy of the first edition of the Mare Blu Cup so that it will be our second trophy within a week, and certainly this will give us a boost for the forthcoming season in order to achieve our targets.”
Midfielder Edmund Agius is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered in the Euro Cup while Steve Bezzina is also missing through injury.
Defender Kenneth Scicluna is expected to return for Valletta tomorrow.
