Valletta’s 17th league match of this season is against eternal rivals Floriana, tomorrow at 20:00hrs at the National Stadium, Ta’Qali. This will be the second match of the evening as Qormi and Hamrun Spartans will start playing at 18:00hrs.
The Valletta vs. Floriana neighbour clash needs no introduction to local football.Undoubtedly this is one of the best derbies on the island. The Lilly White’s failed to reclaim the top spot from Hibernians last Monday following a goalless result against Qormi and now stand second with 34 points, a point less than leaders Hibernians. This was the second match during the season that the Citizens failed to score.
Floriana share the fourth place in the BOV Premier League table together with Sliema Wanderers with 22 points. Earlier this month the Greens lost a protest lodged by Qormi FC against the eligibility of player Paolo Rogerio Da Silva, the MFA board ruled out that Floriana made us of a ‘non bona fide player and decided to award a 2-0 win to Qormi FC.
For tomorrow’s match Valletta will have to do without striker Njongo Priso, midfielder Stefan Giglio returns for the Citizens after serving a one-match suspension. Floriana will have Christian Caruana, Pablo Doffo and Joseph Borg all missing through suspension.
In the last league match played between the two teams, Valletta won the three points 2-1, Ian Zammit scored twice for the Citizens while Orosco Anonam pulled one back for Floriana.
