Preview Day 10 Valletta vs Vittoriosa

The Citizens start their second round commitments next Monday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick off 19:30hrs.

Team Manager Jesmond Zammit gave us these comments about the next match 'That was a fabulous end to the first part of the season. Wouldn't everyone have accepted a deal to end up the first round seven clear points ahead of second place before the start of the season. Who wouldn't ???   In life it is difficult to reach the top but it is even more difficult to retain the status. Our task is much more difficult knowing that points will be halved at the end of the second round. We have to make sure that this seven point advantage is at least maintained by then and hopefully bettered. But it will not be easy.... just watch and see.  January will see a couple of teams bringing in new foreigners, and possibly also local players who have been playing overseas.  That would make the remaining three games before the January market, more and more important for us.

'The match of next Monday is a very tricky encounter indeed, Vittoriosa can be a very difficult team to beat . They  can be extremely dangerous on their counterattacks. With the experienced Agius, Wellman, Pace and Chetcuti in the heart of their defence and Dino Cachia as holding midfielder, Vittoriosa  rely on the vision of Compagnoli, the sharpness of Ewurun and the rapidity of the agile Jorge Santos Silva to threaten any opponent in the Premier League. They will be very hard to penetrate at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday,  and Valletta will have to be extremely careful if they do not want to risk having any surprises. They have nothing to lose.  A good show will satisfy their requirements and lift their morale .Anything more would make them even happier'.

'On the other hand, Valletta will not change much from the last outings. Apart from the injured Kenneth Scicluna, we shall be forced to do without the suspended Dyson Falzon, and in all probability Jonathan Caruana will also be out still recovering from a  injury.  Captain Gilbert Agius ( injured against Hamrun ) is expected to return amongst the starting eleven, together with Jamie Pace and Ramon dos Santos who were also missing against Hamrun through suspensions'.

'Immaterial of who is available and who is not, our players are totally focused.... one common objective......... the much expected Championship trophy in May. There is a big desire to win in the clan , which will make things less difficult at the end of the day. If we want to win the League than we shall have to beat Vittoriosa. Our apetite for goals and points will have to remain at its topmost levels. Our well behaved and enthusiastic supporters will have to get what they deserve.... what they have been waiting for these last months.  The King of the desert  is waiting to roar in May. Luck or no luck , this time it will have to be THE YEAR OF VALLETTA' Zammit ended his comments.
