Day 02: Valletta vs Floriana
The second day of the BOV Premier League kicks off this weekend with an exciting encounter between arch rivals Valletta and Floriana tomorrow at 19:00hrs. Valletta under the guidance of coach Ton Caanen start this match as favorites following signings made during this summer’s transfer campaign.
Kevin Sammut will make his debut with the Citizens tomorrow, Sammut missed last week’s match due to suspension. Coach Ton Caanen should have full squad at his disposal for tomorrow’s match.
Floriana will have to do without Argentinean midfielder Pablo Doffo and striker Orosco Anonam, both players are recovering from injuries. Irish coach Roddy Collins confirmed earlier with the local media that English striker Donovan Simonds will make his debut tomorrow against Valletta.
The last win by Floriana on the Citizens goes back to August 2007. The Greens won the Derby 3-2, two goals by Christian Caruana and one by Adrian Mifsud. Since then two teams met seven times, Valletta won six matches and another match ended in a draw. The Citizens scored 12 goals while Floriana scored one goal.
In the second round of the Championship pool played last May, Valletta beat Floriana 2-0, goals by Njongo Priso and Luke Dimech.
