Day 02: Hibernians vs Valletta
Valletta face Hibernians in a delicate encounter on Friday, kick-off 19:30hrs.
Valletta FC.net collected these comments from team manager Jesmond zammit, ''With a very solid display, Hibs have last Saturday secured their first three points of the season practically giving no chance to Floriana to ever come back into the game. Their tactical discipline and sheer determination was evident throughout the ninety minutes. Their four new foreigners seem to have gelled perfectly together with striker Mcmanus striking a double in the first half to consolidate his present prolific form that he had shown so far in pre season matches. On the other hand, fresh from a 3-0 victory over Vittoriosa, we shall be going for this very sensitive game with a firm objective, that of collecting maximum points meantime ensuring that we do not stay too exposed hence trying to maintain a clean sheet again, in our second outing,'' Zammit said.
''Hibs will be a difficult team to play on Friday with a strong solid defence, a never give up midfield and an extremely sharp attack especially on the counter attack. Kenneth Scicluna and Terrence Scerri will be doubtful starters with Boxer still recovering from a hernia operation and Kavall still nursing an ankle injury which he picked up last Sunday. However, any team which aims to win the league would have to go out into the arena and battle it out to victory .. .. game after game, week in week out,'' Zammit explained.
"If we really need to lift the League Champions trophy then we shall have to start proving our worth as of now, so our players will have to be extra determined to ensure that it is going to be Valletta all the way on Friday night.
One last appeal to our beloved supporters - please make sure that you are the 12th player as usual behind our team , encouraging our players to the maximum and possibly no more. Always do remember that our strength is your support - this will be our motto for this season. Let's make sure we keep it that way. See you all on Friday - till then Forza Valletta City" Zammit ended his comments.
During the last match played between the two teams in April, Valletta won the three points 3-1, Michael Mifsud opened the score for the Citizens, Terence Scerri doubled the score on the 72nd minute and Jordi Cruyff scored the third goal for the Lillywhites.
