Valletta and B'Kara will be facing each other in a most interesting crunch-match; the opening match in the BOV 2009/2010 Premier League kick off 19:30hrs.
Without any doubt this match has been one of the toughest and most expected match of the Premier League for the past few years.
During this summer’s transfer period the Citizens were one of the most active club’s. Valletta signed last year’s top scorer Terence Scerri, international midfielder Kevin Sammut and also defender Steve Borg. The squad was also strengthened by the signing of Jordi Cruyff and Dutch striker Geert Den Ouden.
Last May coach Ton Caanen was appointed new coach replacing Paul Zammit whose contract expired at the end of last season. Valletta were eliminated with a 1-2 aggregate in the second round of the UEFA Europa League against St. Patrick’s Athletic, however the Citizens managed to eliminate FC Keflavik in the first round of the UEFA Europa League aggregate 5-2.
On the other hand, B’Kara won this year’s edition of the Carlsberg Tournament. The Stripes under the guidance of new coach Paul Zammit registered three local players during this summer’s transfer period. Birkirkara also have a new club President Mr Karm Galea.
Last season, Valletta ended second in the BOV Premier League following a battle for the Championship against Hibernians. The Citizens also lost the final of the FA Trophy against Sliema Wanderes. Birkirkara ended the BOV Premier League in the third place.
