Valletta and Hamrun Spartans will face each other in the final of the mare Blu Cup. Details were revealed during a joint press conference which was held at the Mare Blu office in Valletta.
Valletta FC vice president also stated that a great crowd is expected for this match due to the fact that a match between these two teams always attracts supporters. Paul Spiteri ended by revealing that the Valletta FC player’s presentation night will be held on September 10, at Hastings Gardens.
Hamrun Spartans official Gaetano Debattista stated that the Mare Blu Cup is a memorable event which will be held every year and that both clubs deserve to participate in the final. He ended by saying that Hamrun Spartans has strengthened the squad by signing several players during the transfer market in preparation for the Premier League.
Massimo Cappitta started by saying that he and his brother came with the idea to sponsor this event to revive the sporting rivalry that existed between Valletta and Hamrun Spartans during the 80s. Massimo also mentioned that the best set of supporters are those of Valletta and Hamrun and that all expenses involved in organising this event will be sponsored by Mare Blu. The clubs will gain financially from this event and will share the profit equally.
On behalf of Melita, Sandro Micallef explained that the match will not be broadcasted live but the following day on new channel Melita Stars – 614. This channel will be dedicated to screening local sports. Sandro Micallef ended by saying that Melita is giving support to both teams by broadcasting this final.

Hamrun Spartans midfielder, Ryan Fenech thanked Mare Blu for sponsoring this event. Fenech said that it is a great experience when playing against Valletta and may the best team on the pitch win the Cup.
Valletta FC, team manager Jesmond Zammit thanked the sponsors and said that this event will serve as a preparation for both teams for the coming BOV Premier League, it is important that each team uses this match and hope that the event will continue yearly. Zammit ended by saying that the transfer market is still open for Valletta, the club will soon sign the fourth foreigner and maybe there will also be the signing of a local player.
