Valletta FC held its Annual General Meeting for season 2015-16 at St Albert College, Valletta earlier today.
Club General Secretary Joe Attard opened the meeting by thanking those present for the annual club event. This was followed by the reading of the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting; minutes were then approved by the Club's members.


Joe Attard started by presenting the administrative report for the Season 2015-16. The report stated that the club is still waiting for training compensation for ex player Hamza Barry as per UEFA regulations. During last season Valletta took part in the UEFA Europa League competition and were eliminated in the first round against Welsh team Newtown AFC. Last July Valletta FC participated in the Luxol St Andrews Summer Friendship tournament, Valletta succeeded in winning the tournament without conceding a goal. This year the club will participate in this year’s edition of the tournament which will be held in July. Joe Attard said that Valletta were eliminated in the fourth round of the FA Trophy against Birkirkara, not as previous seasons.
Attard gave a brief summary about the club’s participation in the BOV Premier League last season, in which the Lilwhites played a total number of 33 matches, winning 25 matches, losing 4 and at the end of the season were crowned champions with a total of 53 points. At the beginning the last season the squad started using the training facilities of Senglea Athletic in Corradino instead of those of Fgura United.

Although the Valletta Futsal team is in its early stages, the team won the championship decider against Hamrun 10-4, the club secretary thanked Dasier Borg and Alexander Fenech for their support throughout the season. The club organised a testimonial match for club legend Gilbert Agius this was held on Saturday 4th June against Whitegate FC at the Luxol Sports Grounds. During the event the Valletta Supporters Club collected EUR 1,300 from entrance fee which were later given to Hospice Malta. The club secretary praised international midfielder Roderick Briffa for winning the MFA Player of the Year Award, Federico Falcone for ending the season as top scorer and coach Paul Zammit for winning the Coach of the Year award during the MFA Awards 2016.


The Club has succeeded in obtaining the UEFA Licence for the next season. Valletta will participate in the UEFA Champions League in Q1 and could face opponents from Estonia, Faroe Islands, Wales, Armenia, Andorra and Gibraltar. As from next season Valletta FC will have new kits following a sponsorship with Joma through their local representative Tutto Sport.
The club secretary thanked the Valletta Supporters’ club for their work throughout the season, during the last season the supporters club collected a total of EUR 80,000 and enrolled a total of 1,060 members. Joe Attard said that Volume 2 of the club’s History titled ‘City’ The Official History of Football in Valletta will be launched in the coming days.
The club secretary said that there is no needc to conduct an election for the committee this year since the number of committee members is thirteen. The Club’s General Secretary ended his speech by thanking all the club’s sponsors and those involved for their support throughout the season.
Club President, Victor Sciriha started his speech by thanking those who attend the Annual General Meeting. The President introduced the new sponsors for the coming season and stated that the club’s committee is becoming stronger every year. Victor Sciriha thanked the committee member Mario Muscat for introducing Steve, Xandro and Mark to the club and thanked also ex committee member Mr. Francis Vassallo for brining another great sponsor for the club. The club president said that his biggest satisfaction was winning the championship following news in the media during the beginning of last season that Valletta FC will end up in the 5th place.
The president assured all those that were present that the squad will be much stronger than before. The club has also made its first two signings of the season, defender Steve Borg returned back with the club and Argentinean Leandro Aguirre signed a deal till the end of the season. The club is also in the final stages in signing an Argentinean attacking midfielder. Victor Sciriha also mentioned that the club’s aim is to continue winning the championship especially in 2018 during the year that capital city will be European Capital of Culture.
